RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS

We rarely take on any residential work as we are now almost entirely focused on the education and sport sectors, but these are some of our past high profile domestic projects that we have undertaken.

Grand Designs, Hull

Reservoir Conversion

Sense of Space assisted Richard Bennett and Felicia Bohm to transform a disused reservoir near Hull into a family home.  Their journey has been featured on Grand Designs and first aired on 28th September 2019.

Newlands Dwelling Alterations

Ilkley for private client

Sense of Space designed the extension and multi-car garage for this impressive Ilkley home, complete with a tunnel link and connecting slide.

Eden Replacement Dwelling

Ilkley for private client

A new dwelling providing a high quality, energy efficient and sustainable family home, replacing a poor performing 1970s house.

"I have engaged Sense of Space to create a new, highly bespoke, modern residential property. Richard Addenbrook employs a small team of energetic and talented, young architects with whom he works in a very effective collaborative style. They have demonstrated the ability to listen and interpret, applying a combination of imagination, professional skill, attention to detail and sound practical sense which includes dealing with planners and builders. I trust them and have real peace of mind. Brilliant."

Mr A Fisher

Luxury Eco-Friendly Dwelling

Harrogate for private client

This 9,000 square foot house was a finalist in the 2013 Northern Design Awards. The work included a six metre deep excavation to create a sunken garden, indoor swimming pool and cinema room below ground. This challenging project was designed to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Arts and Crafts Luxury Family Home

Ilkley for private client

New arts and crafts style luxury family home overlooking the wharfe valley.  Designed to sit into the landscape and utilise the roofspace minimising the overall massing of the property.

"We approached Richard as part of a three way pitch for a substantial house re-design.  His ideas not only won the pitch, they gave the house the luxury feel and 'sense of space' that had always been missing."

Andy McDermott

Refurbishment of Manor House

Scarcroft, Leeds

Complete conversion and refurbishment of a Grade II listed large late Georgian Villa, formerly used as offices, into a single dwelling with integral garaging and swimming pool.

New Eco-Friendly Dwelling

Green belt, Ilkley

This challenging project comprised the demolition of an existing dwelling & lodge within the green belt to be replaced by a unique, low-carbon house of approximately 450sqm in floor area, being the first significant Code 5 dwelling for a private client. The Code for Sustainable Homes required an integrated approach to achieve a high level of sustainability.

"With a listed property that dated back to the 1400’s it was essential that our extension/modernisation was in keeping and yet we wanted to have all the benefits of modern living such as technology and open spaces.  SoS achieved this mix in the design and also managed a difficult build process, as with any old property there were many unexpected issues to deal with along the way."
